Bubble Growth in a Fluidised Bed

The shape of large gas slugs in the riser of a bubbling fluidised bed is shown on the left. On the right is the solid fraction distribution on a series of horizontal planes up the height of the riser. The riser geometry and operating conditions are based on a Winkler coal gasifier.
