SPP use a rotary dryer to dry crushed oil shale particles. Gas streamlines are used in this animation to show how gas flows through the dryer and the temperature distribution in the dryer. Rapid cooling of gas when it leaves the combustor and enters the dryer section can been seen in the animation. This cooling is due to moist shale particles falling from the lifters. A recirculation near the feed chute is also shown.
If the animation does not load or is of poor quality, try running this compiled Smacker file: d3.exe (0.5MB).
Note that this is an executable file, and should be suitable for all PCs running Win95 or later. For more information about Smacker and its compiled executables, please follow this link.
